High Court reserves verdict on Kejriwal’s plea

New Delhi, July 18

The Delhi High Court on Thursday reserved its verdict on the plea filed by Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal to allow him to hold additional meetings with his legal team.

Kejriwal is currently lodged in Tihar jail in connection with a corruption case linked to the alleged Delhi excise policy scam being probed by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) and the Enforcement Directorate (ED).

Justice Neena Bansal Krishna reserved the order after hearing arguments from the Tihar jail authorities and the ED.

Currently, Kejriwal is allowed two meetings per week with his legal team. He initially requested the trial court for two additional meetings, given he is facing over 30 cases nationwide but this plea was rejected by Special Judge Kaveri Baweja.

CM Kejriwal then moved the High Court against the special court’s order.

While, the CBI had arrested him on June 26 while he was in judicial custody in the money laundering case. However, the apex court granted him interim bail in the ED case on July 12 but he remains in jail pending bail in the CBI case.

Kejriwal was arrested by the ED on March 21 in a money laundering case by the ED in connection with the excise policy. The Delhi CM was granted a 21-day interim bail by the Supreme Court on May 10 for the recently concluded Lok Sabha elections.

Sought more time with lawyers
