A first-time offender, caught driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs, can face a fine of Rs 10,000 or imprisonment for up to six months, or both, under Section 185 of the Motor Vehicles Act. For subsequent offences within a year, the fine may increase to Rs 15,000 and imprisonment can be extended to two years. The Gurugram Traffic Police also stated that the driving licence of the offender could be suspended for three months.

A senior traffic police officer said that during the same period, four vehicles were also impounded.

“Such campaigns will continue in the future,” Rajesh Mohan, DCP Traffic, said.
