The Delhi Police arrested three persons, including a minor, who allegedly abducted the three-year-old son of their tenant. The child has been rescued and returned to his family, police officials said on Tuesday.

The abduction was reported on October 4, when the child’s father lodged a missing person’s complaint. The man said the incident took place when his son was playing outside their house.

Consequently, a case was registered under Section 137(2) (kidnapping) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS). The police relied on manual and technical surveillance to track down the child. The footage captured the missing boy in the company of a person who was later identified as a minor.

“The team followed the suspect’s route with the help of CCTV footage, tracing him to Gandhi Market,” police officials said. The minor was eventually arrested, and during questioning, he disclosed that, on the instructions of his mother, identified as Shama (35), he had taken the boy to hand him over to his aunt in Amroha, Uttar Pradesh.

Further investigation revealed that Shama, who was the landlady of the complainant, had masterminded the abduction. According to police officials, Shama’s sister-in-law (wife of the landlord’s brother) wanted a son, as she only had two daughters. In response, Shama directed her son to abduct the tenant’s child and hand him over to her sister-in-law.

Based on the leads, the police team travelled to Amroha in Uttar Pradesh and recovered the kidnapped child from the couple.
