The accused, Jitender Kumar (32), was arrested from his native village in Khetri, Rajasthan.
DCP (Central) Nidhin Valsan said the accused confessed to kidnapping the infant at the request of a relative who did not have a male child and had promised him financial support.
The incident occurred on August 19, when the baby’s mother, who had travelled from Chennai, lodged a complaint stating that a man she met on the train befriended her and later abducted her child from outside a shop in Nayi Basti.
A case under Section 137(2) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita was registered at Anand Parbat Police Station, and investigations were initiated.
The police team scanned over 100 CCTV cameras and used Artificial Intelligence-based Facial Recognition Software (FRS) to track down the accused, who was traced to his native village in Khetri, Rajasthan.
With assistance from the local police, the Central District team arrested Jitender Kumar and safely recovered the baby.
“The child was rescued unharmed and reunited with his mother,” Valsan added.
