Outgoing Delhi Chief Minister Atishi on Friday accused the BJP of making excuses to avoid fulfilling its poll promises and claimed that the party might backtrack on its promise to provide Rs 2,500 financial assistance to women.

Addressing the media, Atishi, one of the senior AAP leaders who secured victory in the recent Assembly elections, claimed that ‘internal tussle’ is brewing within the BJP over portfolio allocation.

“The BJP repeatedly assured that in the first Cabinet meeting, it would approve financial assistance under the Mahila Samriddhi Yojana. By March 8, the first installment of Rs 2,500 would be deposited in the bank accounts of every eligible women in Delhi,” she said.

However, sources within the BJP claimed that they do not have any intention to fulfil this promise. They also have no plans of delivering any of the other commitments made during the elections, she claimed.

“Their strategy is to shift the blame for their unfulfilled promises onto AAP, claiming that they couldn’t deliver due to an alleged financial crisis in the Delhi government. They will attempt to use this excuse to cover up their own loot and justify breaking their promises,” the AAP leader added.

Highlighting the AAP government’s financial track record, Atishi said Delhi’s budget had increased from Rs 31,000 crore in 2014-15 to Rs 77,000 crore in 2024-25 during its tenure.
