An official vehicle of the Faridabad Municipal Corporation, which was used in a theft incident, was seized by the Gurugram police on Tuesday from the Faridabad MC headquarters.

The police have arrested the driver of the car, who used the vehicle to steal electric wire bundles from a construction site in Gurugram’s Sector 44.

According to the police, on July 8, a person filed a complaint stating that electric wires had been stolen from the construction site of a hospital in Sector 44 on March 6.

An FIR was registered at the Sushant Lok police station in this regard.

The accused has been identified as Niranjan Singh (35), a resident of Salempur Dhankar village in Agra district of Uttar Pradesh. Singh used to work as the driver of the Additional Commissioner of the Faridabad Municipal Corporation.

During interrogation, it was revealed that he was recruited by the MC via the Haryana Skill Employment Corporation in November 2024.

“The accused had got a car registered in the name of his wife, and had leased it to the MC. He confessed to the crime, and said he had given the stolen electric wires to one of his associates. The accused had used the vehicle leased to MC to commit the theft. We have seized the car and are questioning the accused,” a spokesperson of the Gurugram police said.
