Housing and Urban Affairs Minister Manohar Lal Khattar on Friday said that a major chowk outside the Inter-State Bus Terminal (ISBT) in Delhi’s Sarai Kale Khan would be renamed in honour of Bhagwan Birsa Munda.

The announcement was made during an event where Union Home Minister Amit Shah unveiled a statue of the revered tribal independence leader, marking Janjatiya Gaurav Divas, which celebrates Munda’s birth anniversary.

Khattar said, “I am announcing today that the large chowk outside ISBT will be named after Bhagwan Birsa Munda.”

However, Delhi Government sources raised questions about the naming process, pointing out the State Naming Authority, responsible for such changes, is currently inactive. They questioned how permission for renaming the chowk was granted and noted the road belongs to the Delhi Government’s Public Works Department (PWD), suggesting an official order may have been issued for the change.
