Kartavya Path glows as Delhi hosts first Deepotsav

Delhi witnessed a grand Diwali celebration on Saturday as Kartavya Path transformed into a radiant sea of lights for the city’s first-ever Deepotsav, marking a milestone cultural event under the leadership of Chief Minister Rekha Gupta.

Inspired by the festivities in Ayodhya, the celebration saw millions of diyas illuminating the iconic boulevard, creating a stunning spectacle across the capital’s skyline. Thousands of residents joined the Chief Minister, her Cabinet colleagues, and senior officials in the celebrations, which featured a dazzling drone show, Ramayana-themed light displays and captivating cultural performances.

Chief Minister Rekha Gupta described the event as a celebration that blended devotion with progress. “Today’s Deepotsav is not merely a festival of lamps but the herald of a new era. Delhi is scripting a new chapter in which faith and modernity coexist in perfect harmony. The capital has proved that it is not only the seat of governance but also the heartbeat of India’s cultural and spiritual consciousness,” she said.

She added, “After many years, Delhi’s heart once again glowed with the divine radiance of lamps, symbols of the city’s renewed hope, spirit and direction.”

Expressing her gratitude to the Central Government, Gupta said, “This Diwali has touched every section of society. With the Centre’s support, all citizens of Delhi are benefitting in some way. This festival has brought smiles to children’s faces, financial relief to women, new opportunities for youth and reassurance of healthcare for the elderly.”

Reaffirming her government’s commitment to inclusive governance, she stated, “Our resolve is to establish Ram Rajya in Delhi where every citizen enjoys equal opportunity, security, and respect. The Delhi government belongs to the people, and we are their humble servants.”

According to the Chief Minister’s Office, the highlight of the event was a first of its kind drone show that portrayed the life of Lord Shri Ram in the night sky.

CM Gupta said, “The awe-inspiring spectacle not only filled devotees with devotion and pride but also conveyed a powerful message that India’s timeless traditions can beautifully harmonise with modern innovation.”

Reflecting on the essence of Diwali, she said, “Diwali is a festival that symbolizes the triumph of light over darkness, truth over falsehood, and righteousness over evil. It is not only a religious festival but also a celebration of social and cultural unity.”

Concluding her remarks, the Chief Minister said, “Our government is determined to ensure that Delhi remains not just the administrative capital but also reflects the soul of India culturally and spiritually. This Diwali celebration will give Delhi a new identity one rooted in spiritual awakening and cultural pride.”
