A key meeting was held between Union Minister for Housing & Urban Affairs and Power Manohar Lal Khattar and Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta at the Delhi Secretariat on Thursday to address urban development challenges in the capital. The session was attended by Delhi Cabinet Ministers and senior officials from relevant departments, with a primary focus on resolving long-standing urban issues.

The discussions centered on expediting citizen-centric projects, including affordable housing, modernising urban transport, reforms in the power sector, and redeveloping public spaces. In his statement to the media, Khattar highlighted that the meeting had been productive, emphasizing the need to clear long-unresolved obstacles left by previous administrations. He expressed confidence that coordinated efforts between central and state authorities would soon deliver visible benefits to Delhi residents.

Khattar pointed out that several issues, which had remained pending for the past 15 to 20 years, were now being actively addressed thanks to Chief Minister Rekha Gupta’s consistent efforts. He assured that new development policies for Delhi would soon be rolled out.

Chief Minister Gupta referred to the meeting as a “decisive beginning” and declared that it marked the start of a “new chapter in Delhi’s progress.” She added that the discussions covered a wide array of crucial urban development topics, such as urban housing, transportation infrastructure, land-related concerns (including leasehold-to-freehold conversions), revision of conversion rates, the JnNURM scheme, land pooling policies, and the Delhi Land Reforms Act of 1954.

Addressing the media, Gupta remarked, “Delhi has never seen an environment where a Union Minister comes to the Secretariat to discuss people’s issues. Today, we addressed long-pending land matters, such as leasehold, freehold, and land pooling, and explored ways to implement a master plan that will bring relief to the people of Delhi.”

She further stressed that when central and state agencies work together, it results in impactful and sustainable solutions. “Our government is committed to ensuring every Delhiite receives essential services in a timely and efficient manner,” she concluded.
