Deputy Commissioner of Police (Central) Nidhin Valsan said the accused confessed to kidnapping the infant at the request of a relative who did not have a male child and had promised him financial support.

The incident took place on August 19, when the child’s mother, who had travelled from Chennai, lodged a complaint stating that a man she met on the train befriended her and later abducted her child from outside a shop in Nayi Basti.

A case under Section 137(2) of the BNS was registered at the Anand Parbat police station and further investigation was initiated.

The police team scanned over 100 CCTV cameras and used AI-based facial recognition software (FRS) to identify the accused. He was traced to his native village in Khetri, Rajasthan.

With the help of the local police, the Central District team arrested Kumar and safely recovered the baby.

“The child was rescued and reunited with his mother,” Valsan added.
