“The initiative aims to raise awareness, drawing inspiration from Raksha Bandhan, where sisters tie rakhis to symbolise protection and care for their brothers,” a senior official said. The theme was chosen to reinforce the message of safety and responsibility on the roads, the official added.

Traffic violations remain a serious issue in the national capital, often leading to congestion and fatal accidents. According to Delhi Police data, as of June 30, the city recorded a 2.14 per cent increase in fatal accidents, with 667 cases reported this year compared to 653 during the same period last year.

However, overall road accident cases saw a slight dip of 2.91 per cent, with 1,971 incidents registered till June 30, compared to 2,074 last year.
