Lankan PM lauds Delhi’s education reforms during Rohini school visit

Accompanied by Delhi’s Education Minister Ashish Sood, the visit formed part of an educational exchange programme. Amarasuriya engaged with students and teachers, observing classroom activities and gaining insight into Delhi’s digital and project-based learning systems. Students shared their experiences with modern teaching methods and technology-enabled education, leaving a strong impression on the Sri Lankan delegation.
Praising the reforms, Amarasuriya remarked, “Delhi’s education model can inspire developing nations,” calling it a forward-looking approach that fosters equality and innovation in learning.
Education Minister Ashish Sood briefed the visiting Prime Minister on Delhi’s structural reforms, modern infrastructure, smart classrooms, and the innovative teaching methodologies being implemented in government schools.
“It is a matter of pride for us that the Prime Minister of a foreign nation has come to see Delhi’s government schools and learn about their teaching systems. Today, Delhi’s public schools are setting an example for the world,” said Sood.
He added, “For us, education is not only a means of employment but also the strongest tool for equality and progress in society.”
Sood emphasised under the guidance of PM Narendra Modi and Delhi CM Rekha Gupta, the Delhi Government is preparing its schools to meet future challenges, ensuring every child has access to modern education and technology.
Describing the visit as a milestone in regional cooperation, Sood said it symbolises “the success of Delhi’s new education model and the beginning of a new era of knowledge exchange and cooperation between two democratic nations of South Asia.”
Amarasuriya visits IIT to boost academic ties
Sri Lanka’s Prime Minister, Harini Nireka Amarasuriya, visited IIT Delhi on Friday to strengthen bilateral collaboration in research, innovation, and higher education.
During the visit, the Prime Minister engaged with Prof. Arvind Nema, Deputy Director (Operations), Prof Anil Verma, Dean of International Programmes, faculty members, international students and startups. FITT-IIT Delhi incubated startup CYRAN AI briefed her on BUDDHI, an education kit they developed, while Cluix showcased their portable water quality analyser. The Prime Minister also observed various other technologies being developed at IIT Delhi’s Research and Innovation Park.
Amarasuriya said, “IIT Delhi is a prestigious engineering and research institute in our neighbourhood. I believe there is significant potential for academic and research collaboration between our institutes and IIT Delhi. We are already collaborating with IIT Madras, and we look forward to exploring the ways in which our institutions can collaborate with IIT Delhi as well.”
Prof Arvind Nema noted, “The Institute already has a few students from Sri Lanka. We would like to further strengthen collaborative efforts for capacity building. Sri Lankan students are welcome to pursue Master’s and PhD degrees at IIT Delhi and BTech at our international campus in Abu Dhabi. A few dedicated scholarships funded by the Sri Lankan government for their students aspiring to pursue higher degrees at IIT Delhi would be a catalyst in furthering capacity building.”
