Last day of nomination filing for MCB bypolls witnesses political buzz

The final day of filing nominations for the by-elections to 12 wards of the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) witnessed high political activity on Monday, with candidates from the BJP, Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) and the Congress submitting their papers in the presence of senior leaders and supporters.

The BJP turned the day into a show of strength, as candidates from all 12 wards filed their nominations in the presence of CM Rekha Gupta, Union Minister of State Harsh Malhotra, Members of Parliament, Ministers from the Delhi Government and senior party leaders. Party workers turned out in large numbers for the nomination roadshows.

Delhi BJP president Virendra Sachdeva, who had announced the party’s candidates on Sunday evening, said the bypolls were not about forming or toppling a government, but about reaffirming the BJP’s resolve of “Badlo Dilli, Sanwaro Dilli” (Change Delhi, Beautify Delhi).

CM Gupta praised the party’s nominees, saying their “dedication, hard work and commitment to public service have earned them a special place among citizens.”

Among the BJP candidates who filed nominations were Suman Kumar Gupta from Chandni Chowk, Sunil Sharma from Chandni Mahal, Anita Jain from Shalimar Bagh-B, Veena Asija from Ashok Vihar, and Sarla Chaudhary from Vinod Nagar. The BJP said that all party candidates would begin their campaigns from Tuesday.

The AAP also fielded its candidates on the final day, expressing confidence about a strong showing in the November 30 polls. Naraina ward candidate Rajan Arora, accompanied by former MLA Durgesh Pathak, said, “The BJP indulges in politics of promises, while our work speaks for itself.”

Congress candidates also filed their nominations on Monday. Delhi Congress president Devender Yadav accused both the AAP and BJP of deceiving the public through “vote bank politics” and urged voters to “teach a lesson to the arrogance of both parties.”
