President Ram Nath Kovind said Gandhi Jayanti was a special day for every Indian and on the eve of Mahatma Gandhi’s 152nd anniversary, called upon citizens to live by the ideals of the Father of the Nation.

“Gandhi believed that non-violence is a philosophy, a principle and an experience which can be made the basis for betterment of society. He made strenuous efforts for attaining Swaraj, removing untouchability, eradicating social evils, improving the economic condition of our farmers and women empowerment. Kovind turns 76

President Ram Nath Kovind turned 76 on Friday with Vice President M Venkaiah Naidu and PM Narendra Modi greeting him. Former Punjab CM Amarinder Singh and incumbent state CM Charanjit Singh Channi also tweeted greetings.

The Tribune, now published from Chandigarh, started publication on February 2, 1881, in Lahore (now in Pakistan). It was started by Sardar Dyal Singh Majithia, a public-spirited philanthropist, and is run by a trust comprising five eminent persons as trustees.

The Tribune, the largest selling English daily in North India, publishes news and views without any bias or prejudice of any kind. Restraint and moderation, rather than agitational language and partisanship, are the hallmarks of the newspaper. It is an independent newspaper in the real sense of the term.

The Tribune has two sister publications, Punjabi Tribune (in Punjabi) and Dainik Tribune (in Hindi).
