The convict, Umesh, had abducted the girl and took her to Mumbai in December 2018 on the promise of marrying her. When the girl, a student of Class IX, did not reach home after school, her family members lodged a missing complaint. The investigation revealed that Umesh had lured the girl into marrying her and coaxed her to take away cash, amounting to several lakhs and jewellery kept in her house before eloping with him. The accused raped the girl, following which he was nabbed by the police on January 5, 2019.

The court of the Additional District and Sessions Judge Hem Raj Mittal pronounced the sentence after Umesh guilty of the crime.
