The court of Additional Session Judge Jasmine Sharma on Friday convicted a man for raping a minor and sentenced him to 20 years of rigorous imprisonment and a fine.

According to the police, the victim’s father had filed a complaint on February 4, 2022, stating that he left his six-year-old daughter with Ramesh, their neighbour, while he went to a hospital. When he returned, his daughter told him that Ramesh had raped her.

Following the complaint, an FIR was registered under Section 6 of the POCSO Act at Sector 5 police station and later the police arrested the accused Ramesh, a native of Kharman village in Jhajjar district.

“On the basis of the chargesheet, evidence and witnesses, the court sentenced the convict to 20 years of rigorous imprisonment and imposed a fine of Rs 30,000,” said a spokesperson of the Gurugram police.
