A heated altercation between two brothers and a man’s uncle turned fatal for the 28-year-old nephew, who was stabbed in the neck in the Sunder Nagri area on Friday night.

According to the police, the incident occurred around 9.30 pm when local cable operator Kishan Kumar (28) attempted to intervene in an alleged harassment incident.

An official said Kumar initially confronted the accused —Salman and his brother Arbaz, both residents of Sunder Nagri — over their alleged harassment of a girl in the locality. “The complainant scolded the two brothers and asked them to leave the area,” the police official said.

However, the situation escalated about 30 minutes later. Kumar received a call informing him that Salman and Arbaz were seen quarrelling with his nephew, Manish, alias Rahul, in the area.

Rushing to the scene, Kishan found Arbaz restraining Manish, while Salman allegedly stabbed him in the right side of his neck with a sharp-edged weapon, identified as a ‘ghupti’, the official said.

An officer confirmed that Manish was critically injured and rushed to a hospital, but succumbed to his injuries in the early hours of Saturday.

The police arrested both Salman, who operates a tea stall, and his brother Arbaz, a labourer. The weapon used in the attack has also been recovered.

“Both accused have prior criminal records,” a senior police officer said. Salman was previously involved in an attempt-to-murder case, while Arbaz has a history of snatching offences. The investigation also revealed that the victim, Manish, had run-ins with the law. “Manish had been implicated in four prior cases, including an attempt to murder, armed robbery, theft and violations under the Arms Act,” the official added.
