The fire broke out around 8:47 pm at Golden Banquet Hall. According to the Delhi Fire Services (DFS), 24 fire tenders — 18 initially followed by six additional units — were pressed into service to douse the flames.

“Two people were trapped when the fire broke out at the banquet hall. While one managed to escape, Rajesh got trapped in the fire. He reportedly died of suffocation,” said a senior police officer.

The exact cause of death will be ascertained after post-mortem examination, he said. Visuals from the site showed flames engulfing a major portion of the building, with emergency responders battling the blaze through the night.
