The accused has been identified as Tasleem Khan from Alwar, Rajasthan.
According to the police, the incident came to light when a woman from Chhatarpur lodged a complaint alleging that she was cheated of over Rs 2.5 lakh by a man impersonating an Air Force officer.
The woman told the police that the accused sent her fake invoices and letters on Air Force letterhead, demanding token fee, security checks and gate pass charges.
Acting on the complaint, the police launched a manhunt. Using the money trail and technical surveillance, the location of the accused was traced to Alwar.
The police conducted a raid and arrested Khan. Investigation revealed that he posed as an Air Force officer on Quikr and induced victims to transfer money using fabricated documents.
WhatsApp chats retrieved from his mobile phones showed that he had defrauded several people. At least, seven victims have been identified so far.
The police said further investigation was on to identify possible accomplices and trace other victims.
