Ahead of Independence Day, the Municipal Corporation (MC) of Delhi on Thursday organised a flag-hoisting ceremony at its headquarters, the Dr Shyama Prasad Mukherjee Civic Centre. Delhi Mayor Raja Iqbal Singh hoisted the national flag and extended greetings to MC employees, officers, and children. Students of MC schools showcased patriotic song and dance performances at the auditorium. The Mayor lauded the performances, saying that they reflected the holistic development of students in civic body-run schools.

The Mayor said: “Today, we breathe freely and move independently, but, before 1947, our lives were bound by restrictions. Freedom fighters made the ultimate sacrifice for Independence, and we must always remember their contributions.”

The Mayor said, under the leadership of Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta, the MC was running a month-long ‘Freedom from Garbage’ campaign from August 1 to 31 to make the city cleaner.
