Mayor rejects AAP’s charges on compassionate appointments, welfare fund disbursement

Mayor Raja Iqbal Singh on Friday dismissed allegations made by the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) regarding compassionate appointments and the disbursement of the Teacher Welfare Fund in the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD), calling them “baseless and misleading.”

“Aam Aadmi Party only knows how to indulge in disruptive and petty politics,” the Mayor said, accusing the opposition of distorting facts and obstructing welfare measures intended for municipal employees and their families.

Singh alleged during AAP’s tenure in the MCD, which ended in June of last year, 27 eligible dependants of deceased teachers were “made to run from pillar to post” for compassionate appointments, despite having complete documentation. He claimed the process was deliberately delayed, causing hardship to affected families.

He said after the BJP assumed control of the MCD, the pending cases were prioritised and appointment letters were now being issued. “The BJP has always prioritised the welfare of employees and their families,” he said.

The Mayor alleged under AAP’s administration, 13 eligible dependants of deceased teachers were “deliberately denied” financial assistance from the Teacher Welfare Fund. “This is a shameful act that reflects AAP’s apathy and lack of empathy,” he said, adding the current BJP-led MCD was disbursing funds directly into beneficiaries’ bank accounts with “complete transparency.”

“If AAP truly cared for employees, why were no compassionate appointments made and no welfare funds disbursed during their tenure?” Singh asked.

He also alleged the opposition was attempting to “sabotage” ongoing welfare initiatives under the BJP-led administration. “The people of Delhi can clearly see through their tactics,” he added.
