As Delhi prepares to celebrate Chhath Puja, Minister for Art, Culture & Languages Kapil Mishra on Saturday inspected various ghats across the city to review the ongoing preparations. During his visit to the Narela Chhath Ghat, he reviewed the arrangements and directed officials to ensure all facilities were in place for the devotees. Mishra was accompanied by Narela MLA Raj Karan Khatri.

Mishra said that the Delhi Government was committed to making this year’s Chhath Puja historic and grand. “Around 1,300 ghats have been constructed across the city, including 17 major ghats along the Yamuna. Top priority is being given to safety, cleanliness, lighting, water supply, tents and other essential arrangements so that devotees can offer prayers to Chhathi Maiya without any inconvenience,” he said.

During the inspection, the minister interacted with officials, local representatives, committees and volunteers, appreciating their hard work and coordination. “All teams are working tirelessly to ensure that no citizen faces any difficulty during the celebrations,” he said.

Highlighting the government’s efforts to make the festival more inclusive, Mishra recalled past restrictions on performing rituals along the Yamuna. “For many years, people from the Purvanchal community were prohibited from performing Chhath Puja on the banks of the Yamuna, which was a grave injustice to their faith. However, it is a matter of pride today that under the leadership of Chief Minister Rekha Gupta, the Delhi Government has ensured arrangements for Chhath Puja in every part of the capital. This year, people will celebrate the festival with full respect and devotion,” he said.

He further informed that preparations were in full swing at major sites including Narela, Trilokpuri, Sonia Vihar, Kalindi Kunj, and Vasudev Ghat. “Works related to tents, stages, barricading, medical services, and cleanliness are nearly complete,” he added.

Concluding his visit, the minister said, “The Delhi Government considers Chhath not merely a religious festival, but a celebration of unity, and culture. The festival is not just for the Purvanchalis but for all the people of Delhi.”
