Minister of state Ramdas Athawale met with the family of the 16-year-old Class X student from St Columba’s School, who allegedly died by suicide earlier this month. The incident has sparked widespread outrage and calls for strict action against those accused.

Before his death, the student reportedly left a suicide note naming four teachers and accusing them of repeated humiliation. His family has claimed that the boy was subjected to ongoing mental harassment at school.

Speaking after his visit to the family, Athawale expressed concern over the delayed response and demanded accountability.

"Six to seven days ago, he was severely humiliated at school by four teachers, who insulted him so badly that he was driven to take the extreme step of ending his life. In his suicide note, he named these teachers and called for action against them," Athawale said. "An FIR has been filed at the police station, but no action has been taken. In many suicide cases, the police immediately arrest those responsible. I don’t understand why it’s taking so long. I will also raise the issue with Chief Minister Rekha Gupta and Union Home Minister Amit Shah when the session begins, and stress the seriousness of this incident."

Athawale assured the grieving family that he would take the matter to the highest levels and push for a swift investigation and justice.

The tragedy has reignited debates on student mental health, bullying in schools, and the need for stronger accountability mechanisms.
