Meanwhile, the Railway Protection Force (RPF), which is responsible for passenger safety and protection of railway property, registered 14,467 cases of property theft and related crimes at Delhi’s railway stations in 2023.

The number of cases registered by the RPF in 2022 was 13,425, while in 2021, it stood at 8,692, the report highlighted.

The RPF operates under the Centre and is tasked with protecting railway property such as tracks, stations and goods.

Capital tops suicide cases among cities

Delhi has reported the highest number of suicides among all metropolitan cities in the country in 2023, according to the latest National Crime Records Bureau (NCRB) data.

The national capital recorded 3,131 suicides in 2203 reflecting a disturbing rise in psychological distress and socio-economic pressures.

The number places Delhi ahead of other major cities, making it the worst-affected urban centre in the country. The figures also highlight a gender imbalance, with suicides by men nearly three times higher than those by women in Delhi. Experts attribute this to financial stress, family disputes and untreated mental health conditions.
