NGO rescues paralysed monkey from AIIMS kitchen

A young rhesus macaque was rescued from a kitchen at the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) in Ansari Nagar after being found with paralysed hind legs. The monkey, estimated to be around one-and-a-half years old, had reportedly taken shelter inside the hospital premises to escape attacks from other monkeys in the area.

The incident was reported when the hospital staff spotted the injured animal inside the kitchen and contacted an NGO’s, the Wildlife SOS, emergency helpline. Following the call, naturalists reached the location, secured the area and rescued the monkey.

According to Wildlife SOS, the rescued macaque is currently under medical observation at the organisation’s treatment facility. The animal is receiving care for its injuries and will remain under supervision until it is fit for release.

Officials from Wildlife SOS said their team had received several similar distress calls from across Delhi-NCR in recent weeks, indicating a rise in incidents involving monkeys in urban areas. The organisation has been responding to these calls to prevent harm to both people and animals.
