No let-up in pollution, air quality stays ‘very poor’

Delhi’s air quality stayed firmly in the “very poor” category on Saturday, registering an AQI of 305 at 4 pm, according to the Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB).

Though figure marks a marginal improvement from Friday’s reading of 369, the air still remains hazardous.

The slight improvement in the AQI coincided with a noticeable rise in temperatures. Delhi on Saturday recorded a minimum temperature of 10.4°C, while the maximum settled at 25.9°C. The minimum temperature in the Capital was hovering around 8°C for the past few days.

According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), the minimum temperature on Sunday and Monday is likely to hover around 9°C and the maximum around 24°C. On Tuesday, the maximum temperature is likely to touch 25°C and the minimum around 10°C.

Meteorologists said Delhi is likely to experience a further drop of 2-3 degrees between December 3 and 5 with minimum temperature likely to be 8-9°C. While the current IMD data shows minimum temperatures varying between 8°C and 10°C across the Capital, daytime highs remain steady at 25-26°C.
