Only good education can alleviate poverty: Sisodia at ‘Shiksha Par Baat’

Only good education can alleviate poverty, said senior AAP leader and former Delhi Education Minister Manish Sisodia during his ‘Shiksha Par Baat’ event in East Delhi’s Kondli area on Sunday.

Sisodia said that he was willing to fight and plead with anyone to ensure the best educational facilities for children.

“When I was made the Deputy Chief Minister 10 years ago, Kejriwal ji told me one thing: provide an education system for every child in Delhi, even those from the poorest families, as if you are doing it for your own son and daughter. And we have done just that,” he said. “Today, Kejriwal ji’s son is studying at a top IIT for engineering, and so is the son of a person who earns his living by ironing clothes on a street corner,” he added.

He underscored that the Delhi Government initiated the move to send teachers and principals for world-class training and introduced a new curricula in schools. “We even provided free training in schools for exams like NEET, JEE, NDA, and CUET. As a result, Delhi government schools have consistently outperformed private schools. Every year, thousands of children are passing IIT-JEE and NEET exams,” said the former Delhi minister.

With the Capital scheduled to go for polls in February, AAP leader said, “Our aim is to continue this momentum, to ensure that it never stops. Unfortunately, there are still people in the country who do not want poor children to succeed.”

Sisodia sought suggestions from people to improve the education system in the next five years. “What facilities should we provide in schools, and how should we organise things? Building good schools, achieving good result, and providing good teacher training will continue, but what more should we do? How can we ensure that the changes technology brings in our lives benefit children rather than harm them?” he added.
