Over 3,500 kg of illegal firecrackers seized from house

The police also arrested three members of a family for repackaging the firecrackers for sale ahead of the festive season.
The accused have been identified as Sushil Kakkar (53), his wife Upasana Kakkar (50) and their son Shivam Kakkar (28).
On the basis of specific intelligence, the Special Staff team conducted a raid at a residential premises on September 25.
During the raid, officers found crackers stored throughout the house, including the kitchen. The family members were caught red-handed while repacking the crackers into smaller consignments for supply in Delhi.
The police said the family runs a shop selling namkeen and other eatables in Moti Nagar, but had been illegally procuring crackers from Meerut, Gurugram and Ghaziabad to sell these at higher profit margins in Delhi.
A case has been registered under Section 9-B of the Explosives Act and appropriate sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita at the Rajouri Garden police station.
The police said the recovery ensured compliance with the Supreme Court’s orders and averted a possible large-scale fire accident in the congested neighborhood.
