Over 6,000 people participated in the Namo Run at the Yamuna Sports Complex in Surajmal Vihar on Sunday, part of the Sansad Khel Mahotsav 2025-East Delhi. The run, focused on the theme of road safety, was hosted by Minister of State for Corporate Affairs and Road Transport and Highways Harsh Malhotra and flagged off by Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta.

Participants ranged from schoolchildren to senior citizens, promoting both fitness and responsible behaviour on the roads. The event aimed to raise awareness about following traffic rules while encouraging an active lifestyle.

Malhotra said the initiative aligns with Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision of empowering youth and building momentum toward Viksit Bharat@2047. “The Namo Run is a testament to the government’s commitment to promoting sports and creating a fitness-oriented ecosystem,” he said. He added that the strong turnout reflects growing enthusiasm for community-driven fitness activities and has urged him to host more such events.

Chief Minister Rekha Gupta, along with East Delhi MLAs and other dignitaries, attended the run and addressed participants. She said linking road safety with a public sports event makes the message more impactful. Drawing parallels between athletic discipline and safe driving, she emphasised focus, lane discipline and avoiding distractions are essential both on the track and on the road.

“Sportsmanship, discipline and team spirit are as important on the road as they are on the field,” Gupta said, urging young people to avoid mobile phone use and intoxicants while driving. She added the involvement of youth is a step toward a safer and more developed Delhi.

The Chief Minister also highlighted the government’s ongoing work to promote sports and fitness across the city, noting that events such as this encourage positive behavioural change. “A safe Delhi forms the foundation of a Viksit Delhi and adherence to road safety is the responsibility of every citizen,” she said.
