In a major crackdown on wildlife trafficking, the Delhi Forest Department raided a smuggling ring in the Jama Masjid market area of Old Delhi where over 700 endangered wild birds were kept squashed in tiny wire cages waiting to be sold to other traders.
Late on Monday night, Wildlife SOS, a wildlife conservation agency, received a tip off regarding the captivity of birds from the Delhi forest conservation wing. A Rapid Response Unit with bird care experts were rushed to the spot. They immediately shifted the rescued birds from the tiny cages to larger cages. They were provided medical treatment, feeding, and rehabilitation, before being released back in the wild.
