A brief panic was reported in South-West Delhi’s Mahipalpur area on Thursday morning after a loud sound, initially suspected to be a blast, was heard near Hotel Radisson. Police later confirmed that the noise was caused by the bursting of a DTC bus tyre.

According to officials, a call regarding a suspected explosion near the hotel was received, following which police teams rushed to the spot.

“The caller was contacted and informed that while he was on his way to Gurugram, he heard a loud noise. No incident site was found during inspection,” said DCP (South-West) Amit Goel.

A local security guard later informed the police that the rear tyre of a DTC bus heading towards Dhaula Kuan had burst, leading to the loud noise.

“The situation is normal and there is nothing to worry about,” the DCP added.

The incident comes amid heightened security and a citywide alert following the November 10 Red Fort car blast, which claimed a dozen lives and left several others critically injured.
