Chief Ministers Atishi and Bhagwant Mann have written to the Election Commission, urging them to reinstate the Punjab Police’s security cover for AAP convener Arvind Kejriwal. This comes a day after the Punjab Police withdrew its security personnel.

In their letter, the CMs stated that the Punjab Police has been a reliable and crucial component of Kejriwal’s security detail, which was withdrawn abruptly without consultation or justification. They accused the Delhi Police of operating under partisan influences, alleging that Kejriwal’s security cannot be left in their hands.

“Kejriwal’s security cannot and must not be left in the hands of a police force that is evidently compromised,” the letter read.

The CMs claimed that the Delhi Police has turned a blind eye to alleged attacks on Kejriwal, following Union Home Minister Amit Shah’s orders. Atishi and Mann also stated that a “huge conspiracy” is being hatched to kill Kejriwal through the joint efforts of BJP and the Delhi Police.

According to the letter, multiple targeted attacks on Kejriwal have been attempted over the last three months, including physical assault and stone pelting during a political rally. The police were accused of being “mute spectators” and failing to protect Kejriwal.
