In a video message, Lovely said, “He is the first Prime Minister to recognise the sacrifice of Sikh gurus.” He added that the PM’s presence was definitely recorded in the programmes of their martyrdom. He tells the story of Guru Gobind Singh’s sacrifice to the whole country. He tells the story of the martyrdom of the Sahibzadas in the form of Veer Baal Diwas to the whole country.”

Lovely said the PM consistently ensured that the stories of Sikh courage reached people across the country.

His remarks came on a day when Prime Minister Narendra Modi, while addressing MPs at the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) meeting, paid homage to Guru Gobind Singh’s sons, Sahibzada Zorawar Singh and Sahibzada Fateh Singh, and urged wider awareness about their steadfast commitment to their faith.

At the meeting, the PM highlighted the upcoming Veer Baal Diwas on December 26, calling for its nationwide observance.

The government had declared December 26 as Vir Bal Diwas in 2022 to mark the martyrdom of the Sahibzadas, who were bricked alive on December 26, 1704, on the orders of Mughal faujdar Wazir Khan.

Modi had paid tribute to Guru Tegh Bahadur last month on his 350th Martyrdom Day, saying the Guru’s life and sacrifice continued to guide the country’s moral and spiritual values. At an event in Kurukshetra, he said Guru Tegh Bahadur upheld truth, justice and freedom of belief, noting that such courage was rare in history.

Delhi Environment Minister Manjinder Singh Sirsa also acknowledged Modi’s remarks. He said, “This will ensure that the message of the great sacrifices of Guru’s reaches every corner of the country.”
