The joint operation involved personnel from the Jamia Nagar and South East District police stations, along with the Delhi Police Crime Branch. The raids come a day after an FIR was registered against Khan under Sections 221, 132, and 121(1) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS).
According to police, the incident took place when the Crime Branch conducted a raid to arrest Shahbaz Khan, who is facing an attempt-to-murder charge and has been declared a proclaimed offender.
Officials said the team had successfully detained him when Amanatullah Khan allegedly intervened, questioning the arrest and insisting on the suspect’s innocence.
“There was a heated exchange between the MLA and our officers. Amid the commotion, the accused managed to escape,” a senior police officer said.
Amanatullah Khan was recently elected as the MLA from Okhla for the third consecutive time in the Delhi Assembly elections, defeating BJP’s Manish Chaudhary by a margin of 23,639 votes. Khan secured 88,392 votes, while Chaudhary garnered 65,304.
