The development comes a day after two other teachers were questioned, along with several students, as part of the ongoing investigation. Earlier, St Columba’s School had suspended four teachers following preliminary inquiries.
The parents of the deceased student have demanded strict action against those responsible, alleging persistent harassment by teachers had driven their son into severe mental distress.
Several placards reading “Justice for the child” and “No student harassment” were seen at a protest, where the family displayed certificates awarded to the student. Parents and students gathered to demand accountability from the school and stern action in the case.
The father of the deceased said: “My son was very intelligent. He had won several medals and certificates. When I last spoke to him, I never imagined he would take such a step. He kept complaining that teachers were troubling him a lot. Many students and parents are now protesting, seeking justice for my son. We just want justice.”
The victim’s mother echoed the demand, saying: “My son must get justice, and the culprits should receive the harshest punishment. He told me several times that the teachers were harassing him. Justice must be served so that no other child suffers like this in the future.”
The police said the the student jumped from the Rajendra Place metro station platform at 2.30 pm on Tuesday. He was rushed to hospital, where he was declared dead. A suicide note was recovered, in which the boy alleged he had been subjected to prolonged harassment by his teachers.
