The Delhi Cabinet of Ministers, chaired by Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal, on Thursday approved a power subsidy scheme for 2024-25, reaffirming its commitment to providing free electricity. Approximately 22 lakh families consuming up to 200 units of electricity will continue to receive zero bills, while those who consume up to 400 units will get 50 per cent subsidy on their bill, officials announced.

Delhi is the only state where 24×7 power supply is ensured. Despite that, 22 lakh people receive a zero-electricity bill. It’s known that our opponents try to obstruct every policy of the Kejriwal government. — Atishi Singh, Delhi Finance Minister

Kejriwal extended congratulations to the people of Delhi, emphasising the extension of the free electricity scheme until March 31, 2025.

He said on X, “Your uninterrupted 24-hour electricity supply and free electricity have been extended until March 31, 2025. This includes free electricity for lawyers’ chambers as well. Despite attempts to halt the electricity subsidy, let me assure you that these efforts were in vain.”

“For your information, 24-hour electricity and free electricity are available only in Delhi and Punjab. In the rest of the country, there are long power cuts, and people have to pay electricity bills worth thousands of rupees. This is because there is a government of honest and educated people in Delhi,” he added.

Atishi said, “The Kejriwal government has been providing power subsidies to the people of Delhi for the past nine years. Delhi is the only state where 24×7 power supply is ensured. Despite that, 22 lakh people receive a zero-electricity bill. It’s known that our opponents try to obstruct every policy of the Kejriwal government.”

She added that whenever CM attempts to make decisions for the welfare of Delhi people, opponents employ various tactics to hinder them.”

“Farmers, advocates and 1984 riot victims will also continue to receive their subsidies,” added Atishi.
