Project to build flats for MPs completed ahead of schedule, Rs 46 crore saved: LS Speaker

Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla Monday said the project to build new apartments for MPs was completed ahead of schedule, saving around Rs 46 crore, and has ensured adequate availability of housing for lawmakers near the Parliament complex.

He was addressing a function where Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated the multi-storey housing complex comprising 184 apartments at Baba Kharak Singh Marg.

Built using modern technology with regular monitoring, the project was completed ahead of schedule, saving approximately Rs 46 crore, Birla said.

He added that the completion of the project has now ensured adequate housing availability for Lok Sabha Members near the Parliament House, enabling them to work with greater efficiency and focus on their parliamentary duties.

Under PM Modi’s leadership, the last 11 years witnessed transformative changes, including the timely construction of the new Parliament building, the installation of Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose’s statue at Kartavya Path, and the development of public infrastructure such as National War Memorial, Police Memorial, Bharat Mandapam, Yashobhoomi and Kartavya Bhawan, Birla said.

He said that inspired by the Prime Minister’s vision, 344 new houses have been built for Lok Sabha members in the last eleven years.

The four towers in the newly inaugurated complex, named Kosi, Krishna, Godavari and Hooghly, symbolise India's cultural richness, diversity and unity, Birla added.
