For the second consecutive day, the Delhi BJP, led by its president Virendra Sachdeva, took to the streets to protest the’murder’ of three students in Rajinder Nagar. On Tuesday, Delhi BJP office-bearers officials, legislators, municipal councillors, and MPs, including New Delhi MP Bansuri Swaraj and Chandni Chowk MP Praveen Khandelwal protested at the Rajghat. In a symbolic gesture, BJP leaders sat with white tape plastered over their mouths, signifying the government’s silence on the issue.

They observed a two-minute silence to honour the deceased students. The protest also featured a video highlighting conflicting statements from Aam Aadmi Party’s Mayor Shelly Oberoi and Minister Saurabh Bhardwaj regarding sewer cleaning.

Sachdeva criticised the Aam Aadmi Party’s handling of the situation, particularly the insensitive remarks from the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD). “The Delhi govt statements need to be understood. Until July 26, AAP leaders claimed 90 per cent of the drains had been cleaned, while we asserted from day one that the cleaning had not begun,” he said.

Sachdeva accused minister Saurabh Bhardwaj of stalling crucial drainage management proposals, highlighting bureaucratic inefficiency.

Sachdeva pointed to a directive from the Supreme Court following the Mukherjee Nagar incident, which required the Delhi Government to audit buildings housing coaching institutes and PG accommodations. “If Sanjay Singh and Saurabh Bhardwaj had been proactive, the students’ lives could have been saved,” he stated.
