Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Wednesday urged devotees to pay obeisance at Gurdwara Moti Bagh in the national capital, where Union Minister Hardeep Singh Puri handed over the custody of holy ‘Jore Sahib’, the footwear of Guru Gobind Singh and his wife Mata Sahib Kaur. From this gurdwara, the relics of the tenth Sikh guru will be taken to Patna in a nagar kirtan.

“May Guru Charan Yatra deepen our connection with the noble ideals of Sri Guru Gobind Singh Ji and Mata Sahib Kaur Ji,” PM Modi said, urging people in the area to come and have darshan of the holy ‘Jore Sahib’ after Puri handed over the sacred relics to Delhi Sikh Gurdwara Prabandhak Committee’s Moti Bagh Gurdwara.

Puri’s family has been the custodian of ‘Jore Sahib’ for 300 years. “The holy ‘Jore Sahib’, ‘Charan Suhawa’ of the founder of Khalsa Panth, Dasam Pita Sri Guru Gobind Singh Ji Maharaj, and his wife Mata Sahib Kaur Ji, have been with our family for over 300 years,” Puri said. “Today, I feel humbled that my family will hand over the custody of the holy relics to Delhi Sikh Gurdwara Management Committee.”

A special Kirtan Samagam was held at Gurdwara Moti Bagh, where devotees were able to have a darshan of the holy ‘Jore Sahib’. “It will then be taken in Guru Charan Yatra and will be permanently placed at the birthplace of Dasam Pita in Takht Sri Patna Sahib, where the devout will be able to pay their obedience and perform darshan,” Puri added.

From the gurdwara, the relics will travel in a ceremonial procession to Takht Patna Sahib, the birthplace of Guru Gobind Singh, where they will eventually be enshrined. Puri said the Guru Charan Yatra will begin on October 23 from Gurdwara Moti Bagh and reach Faridabad by night. The yatra’s schedule is as follows:
