The police said they received a PCR call at the Sarai Rohilla police station regarding a murder on February 1. “The caller informed the police that a person had been murdered,” an officer said.

After getting the information, the police reached a basement office in Vivekanandpuri. The police found the victim, Ranbir Singh, lying in a pool of blood.

The police examined the crime scene and collected forensic evidence. However, no external injuries were visible on the body, they said.

“The victim was immediately shifted to Hindu Rao Hospital where doctors declared him dead on arrival. The body was sent for post-mortem to know the exact cause of death,” the official added.

According to police, Ranbir’s son suspected foul play as several medical items, including an ultrasound machine, a laptop, and other valuables, were missing from the office.

The police reviewed 300 CCTV footages and tracked the movement of suspected individuals. “We closely analysed both entry and exit routes near the crime scene. Three suspects were seen in the vicinity just before the incident,” DCP (North), Raja Banthia said.

Through vehicle registration details and call data records, investigators zeroed in on a suspect car, leading them to Muzaffarnagar, Uttar Pradesh. Following a raid in Bhagra, Muzaffarnagar, the accused were arrested and the stolen items, including the ultrasound machine, were recovered.

“We also seized the car used in the crime, which was registered in the name of the main accused, Md Pravez Alam,” the DCP added.

Investigations revealed that Alam, a self-proclaimed doctor running a clinic named “Bharat Medicare” in Muzaffarnagar, was the mastermind behind the crime. While other accused, Md. Nasir and Nikhil Kumar, worked as ward boys at different private clinics in Muzaffarnagar.

“He (Alam) had been looking for an ultrasound machine and came across the victim’s office details online. Eight months ago, he attempted to buy the machine, but failed to close the deal. He then conspired with his associates to rob the victim,” the official said.

On the day of the crime, the accused visited the victim’s office under the pretense of negotiation.

“They overpowered the victim, injected him with an intoxicating substance and strangled him before fleeing with the stolen equipment. We have also obtained CCTV footage showing the accused fleeing the scene,” it added.
