Heavy rainfall lashed several parts of the city on Sunday, providing much-needed respite from hot and humid weather conditions. The rainfall led to waterlogging in several areas, causing significant disruptions in road traffic and flight operations.

According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD) data, Ayanagar received the highest rainfall at 57.3 mm, followed by Delhi Ridge with 22.2 mm, and Safdarjung — the city’s base weather station — with 16.7 mm. In its forecast, the IMD said light to moderate rains will continue in the city till August 9.

The downpour led to waterlogging on key roads impeding vehicular movement. Air traffic was also hit at the Indira Gandhi International Airport.

According to flight tracking platform FlightRadar, 105 departing flights and 31 arriving flights were delayed, while three flights were cancelled due to adverse weather conditions.

The Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB) reported that Delhi’s Air Quality Index (AQI) stood at 79 at 4 pm — falling under the “satisfactory” category.

While the rain has brought relief from the soaring temperature and humidity, residents are advised to remain cautious due to waterlogging and low visibility on roads. The IMD has urged citizens to stay updated on weather advisories as rainfall is expected to continue in the coming days.
