Rain lashes Delhi-NCR, brings relief from humid weather

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) issued a yellow alert for the day, forecasting light to moderate rain, thunderstorms and gusty winds.
The national capital had been witnessing high temperatures through September and early October.
On Monday, Delhi recorded minimum temperature of 20.6 degree Celsius and maximum temperature of 26.5 degree Celsius. Sunday’s maximum temperature was recorded at 34.1 degrees Celsius, according to IMD data.
Several stations across the city recorded rainfall on Monday morning. Safdarjung, the city’s base observatory, logged 10.3 mm of rainfall till 8:30 am. Lodhi Road 13.2 mm, Palam 4.6 mm and Ayanagar 5.4 mm during the same period, the IMD data showed.
The weather office forecast partly cloudy sky for the day, with the maximum temperature likely to reach 29 degree Celsius.
The rainfall on Monday follows a period of sustained high temperatures in the city. The IMD has said that light to moderate rainfall may continue in the coming days in some parts of Delhi-NCR.
Overnight rain slightly relieved Delhi, with air quality showing signs of improvement. Data from the Central Pollution Control Board indicated that the city’s average AQI fell to 123 at 7 am, down from 159 on Sunday. Anand Vihar recorded the highest pollution levels at 205 AQI, classified as ‘poor,’ while Lodhi Road reported the lowest at 78 AQI, considered ‘satisfactory.’
