Ramjas, Deshbandhu colleges get bomb threats, exams postponed

Panic gripped Delhi after the Ramjas and Deshbandhu colleges received bomb threat emails on Wednesday, officials said, adding that the college premises were vacated and practical examinations haven been postponed.

According to the officials, the principals of both colleges received the threats around 1.59 am.

They said the subject line of the emails read: “Pakistan–Tamil Nadu Collusion. Placed in Deshbandhu and Ramjas colleges to blast at 1:15 p.m. Evacuate All ASAP!”

Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP North) Raja Banthia said Ramjas College principal Ajay Arora alerted the police in the morning.

“Both campuses were subsequently cordoned off, entry was restricted and bomb disposal teams along with K9 units searched the premises. No suspicious device was found,” the DCP added.

The officials said the contents of the emails referred to an alleged methamphetamine case with political links, claiming the plot involved “Pak ISI cells operating from Coimbatore.”

“Please evacuate all students and staff by noon to be safe. I was part of the planning phase, but I want to become an informer and get witness protection,” the email read. The officials said the sender of the email claimed to be a member of a political party based in South India.

The practical examinations of Student of Open Learning (SOL) were distrusted in Ramjas college and they will now be conducted on Thursday, a college official said. The official added that there was no disruption in classes as the academic session concluded in November.
