Amid heightened security measures in view of the Independence Day celebrations at the iconic Red Fort in North Delhi, seven policemen were suspended after they failed to detect a dummy bomb during a mock security drill.

According to police sources, personnel from the Special Cell team, disguised as civilians, reportedly entered the Red Fort premises carrying a dummy bomb, which went unnoticed by on-duty security staff.

Following the lapse, all seven personnel were immediately suspended for negligence.

Every year on Independence Day, Prime Minister hoists the National Flag from the ramparts of the Red Fort, accompanied by a 21-gun salute. In view of the preparations, the entire area remains under tight security with drones, snipers and multi-layered arrangements.
