New Delhi, August 3
A 72-year-old retired MTNL mechanic, Gautam Thakur, was brutally stabbed to death by two assailants at his home in East Delhi’s New Ashok Nagar on Saturday.
Thakur’s son, Mukesh Thakur, called the police, informing them about the incident. The police found Thakur dead on the bed in his first-floor room, with stab wounds on his abdomen. Thakur had retired from MTNL in 2012 and was living with his two sons and their families in the same house.
“The crime team was dispatched to the scene to collect evidence and take photographs,” DCP (East) Apurva Gupta said.
Thakur’s body has been sent to LBS Hospital for a postmortem, and an FIR for murder has been registered.
During preliminary investigations, it was revealed that all family members were present in the house at the time of the attack. Mukesh Thakur reported seeing two men leaving the house shortly after the stabbing, but the police are still verifying this information.
“We are thoroughly scanning the CCTV footage from the area to identify the suspects,” said Gupta.
