In a significant move, Delhi Lieutenant Governor VK Saxena has approved the inclusion of retired government employees in the Government Servants category for membership at the Delhi Development Authority’s (DDA) Dwarka Golf Course.

This decision comes after multiple representations from retired officials who were previously treated on par with private individuals under the draft rules and bylaws for the newly developed golf facility in Sector 24, Dwarka.

The Dwarka Golf Club, one of the longest golf courses in India, spans 158 acres and features an 18-hole course, a clubhouse, a 377-yard driving range, a 6-hole chip and putt course for children and a swimming pool. The course operates on a pay-and-play basis but offers membership options with playing rights as well.

Under the revised regulations, members in the government category - Central and State government employees, employees of Union Territories, Public Sector Undertakings, banks, autonomous bodies and those on deputation or foreign service retaining lien on their posts - can choose three-year or five-year playing rights. Retired government employees will now enjoy equal privileges with serving employees.

Members can avail of discounts on renewal of playing rights, receiving a 25 per cent rebate on the first renewal and a 35 per cent rebate on the second, with a maximum of two extensions allowed. In the event of a member’s demise, their spouse will be eligible to inherit the playing rights upon payment of a prescribed fee, even if they were not earlier holders.

The move aims to recognise the contributions of retired government servants by providing them access to premium recreational facilities and promoting inclusive membership at one of the country’s premier golf courses. Additionally, the Dwarka Golf Club offers training facilities for aspiring athletes preparing for Asian and Olympic Games events.
