The BJP is set to form the government in Delhi after a gap of 27 years following a decisive victory in the recent elections, securing 48 out of 70 seats. The party’s focus is now on key decisions regarding the selection of the Chief Minister and the formation of the new Cabinet.

BJP’s Parvesh Verma, who won the elections from the New Delhi seat, emphasised that the choice of CM would be accepted by all and that the legislative party would make the decision, with the final approval from the party leadership. Rajouri Garden MLA-elect Manjinder Singh Sirsa also said the CM will be finalised by the party.

As part of the process for government formation, several newly elected BJP MLAs, including Verma, Kailash Gahlot and Arvinder Singh Lovely, paid a courtesy visit to Delhi’s Lieutenant Governor (L-G) Vinai Kumar Saxena. Lovely addressed the media following the visit, clarifying that it was a formal gesture and not related to formation of the government.

Earlier in the day, the Delhi L-G had officially dissolved the 7th Legislative Assembly of the National Capital Territory of Delhi, following the resignation letter submitted by outgoing Chief Minister Atishi.

Taking a jibe at Atishi, BJP’s Sirsa said: “Atishi has not resigned. People of Delhi have asked her to resign. The BJP will soon form the government, and the high command will decide on the CM face. We will get a Chief Minister who will implement PM Modi’s vision for Delhi.”

Meanwhile, Delhi BJP president Virendra Sachdeva wrote a letter to the L-G requesting a meeting with all 48 winning BJP MLAs and Delhi MPs. The letter sought an appointment with Saxena at the earliest convenience to discuss the next steps in formation of the government.

On Sunday, the Delhi BJP convened a meeting at its party office, where all newly elected legislators gathered to discuss constituency-specific matters. The meeting was attended by Sachdeva, BJP’s Delhi in-charge Baijayant Panda and National Organisation Secretary BL Santosh.

With the BJP’s resounding victory in the elections, the party is now poised to take charge in Delhi. As the leadership continues to deliberate on key decisions for the new government, people of Delhi eagerly await announcements on the Chief Minister and the cabinet in the coming days.
