The Delhi Government has banned the sale, purchase and distribution of Coldrif cough syrup after it was declared “not of standard quality” due to the presence of a toxic chemical, according to an official order issued on Friday.

Coldrif Syrup (Paracetamol, Phenylephrine Hydrochloride, Chlorpheniramine Maleate), manufactured in May 2025 by Sresan Pharmaceutical Manufacturer in Tamil Nadu, was found to contain 46.28 per cent Diethylene Glycol (DEG), a chemical known to be highly toxic to humans.

The authorities have directed all stakeholders to immediately halt the sale, purchase and distribution of the affected batch and have warned the public against its use. The government has also sought assistance from all stakeholders to ensure strict compliance and wide dissemination of the advisory.

The ban comes amid growing concern over the circulation of adulterated cough syrups in several parts of the country.
