Facebook India Vice-President Ajit Mohan will have to appear before Delhi Assembly’s Peace and Harmony Committee in connection with the 2020 Delhi riots as the Supreme Court on Thursday upheld the House’s power to set up such a committee.

Noting that Facebook is a platform where political differences are reflected, a three-judge Bench led by Justice Sanjay Kishan Kaul said, “They (Facebook) cannot wash their hands off the issue as this is their very business…their role is not as innocuous as they are seeking to contend.” The Bench, however, said the committee can’t act like a prosecuting agency.

The Tribune, now published from Chandigarh, started publication on February 2, 1881, in Lahore (now in Pakistan). It was started by Sardar Dyal Singh Majithia, a public-spirited philanthropist, and is run by a trust comprising five eminent persons as trustees.
