The site was inspected twice by the Enforcement Wing, led by GMDA District Town Planner and Nodal Officer for Encroachments in Gurugram RS Batth.

Despite sufficient time provided for relocation (a two-months’ notice), the encroachers did not vacate the land. During the third and final inspection, two days’ time was given to all the inhabitants to shift their belongings.

As the grace period lapsed, the GMDA went ahead with a demolition drive on Tuesday.

Currently, debris is being removed from the site. Once this is done, GMDA will also install missing grills on the stretch and take up landscaping and development to restore the environment.

Besides, GMDA in coordination with the MCG has also acted against market encroachments the area. Almost 10 joint visits were carried out by Batth and MCG officials. Strong enforcement action was taken twice, resulting in the market becoming nearly 80 per cent encroachment-free. Support of the area councillor was also sought.

“These drives will be continue across Gurugram to reclaim public land and to further develop adequate infrastructure and green cover in the city,” Batth said.
